Friday night marked the fourth game Lincoln head football coach Tom Mihalovich sat out.
The coach was sidelined after a player's family expressed concerns about his discipline policies almost one month ago.
But Friday night in a surprising twist, Mihalovich made an appearance at the homecoming football game -- all because of one special request that almost wasn't granted.
On Thursday we told you about Vybert Greene's request. The co-captain of the football team asked Mihalovich and his wife to escort him out on the field for homecoming court.
The soft-spoken senior, whose mother is battling cancer, said Mihalovich has been his role model and his "rock."
"I just thought it was important to be there," Greene said.
The school had denied the request because Mihalovich isn't allowed to be on school grounds during his suspension but at the last minute school district officials changed their minds.
The loudest applause Friday night was for Mihalovich. Greene was thrilled.
"I'm glad they let me have what I wanted," he said. "It's a good feeling. Coach, I always look up to him so it's a big deal."
Mihalovich said he appreciated the school district's decision.
