(AP) — Carlos Beltran was scheduled to be in the St. Louis Cardinals' starting lineup to bat second and play right field against the Boston Red Sox in Game 2 of the World Series on Thursday night.

Making the first Series appearance of his career, the 36-year-old was hurt making a jumping catch against the right-field wall in the second inning a night earlier, when he robbed David Ortiz of a grand slam during the Cardinals' 8-1 loss. Beltran left the game an inning later and was taken to a hospital for X-rays and a CT scan, which were negative.

Beltran's name was included in the Game 2 lineup distributed by Major League Baseball about 90 minutes before the scheduled first pitch.

Earlier in the day, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny wasn't sure, saying "He's probably about 10, 15 minutes away from being able to get into the cage and get some more swings in, and we'll have a better idea then."
